Hey’ya exhibition was originated in Qatar, at the Arab Games’ Athletes Village in December 2011, where renowned photographer Brigitte Lacombe and documentary film-maker Marian Lacombe, with the support of Qatar’s Aspire programme, set up an outdoor studio, working side by side with female athletes. After that, they travelled to 20 different Arab countries to document images and videos of 70 Arab sportswomen. QMA commissioned the project and conceive it as part of our mission to educate and spark debate about sports, challenging preconceptions about the Arab women in sports and persuading more girls to find a way to participate. The exhibition was first shown in London during the 2012 Olympic Games.
